Because of public outcry against Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), U.S. farmers are reported to be planting fewer acres of GMO crops this year and the planned new governmental standards for Organic Certification excludes the use of GMOs in any form. Consumers are being reminded to keep up the pressure on government officials to protect the public's health and right to know that the term "Certified Organic" will always mean that the product has not been tampered with in any manner. - Scott C. Yates and Dave Plank, Natural Foods Merchandiser, May 2000. Astudy published in the Archives of Dermatology reports that herbal essential oils can stimulate hair growth. In a study, 44% of subjects who used lotions containing oils of thyme, lavender, rosemary and cedar showed significant hair growth, compared to those using a placebo, with no side effects reported. A recent study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine showed that American ginseng taken forty minutes before a meal caused a 20% drop in blood sugar levels. In another study published in Diabetes Care, Panax ginseng was shown to improve mood, reduce blood glucose levels and body weight. No side effects were observed. Ginseng has been used for diabetes in Oriental medicine. The herb thyme was found to inhibit the H. pylori bacteria now known to cause ulcers.
In four studies, cactus stems (No-pal) were found to lower blood sugar levels in Type II diabetes. In other studies, garlic was also shown to lower blood sugar levels.
In a recent study of patients with Crohn's disease, it was discovered that patients with this disorder had low levels of selenium. This mineral is an umportant antioxidant, needed by the immune system.
A recent study on turmeric reveals it may help both prevent and treat cancer of the colon. Rats fed turmeric had a much lower incidence of colon cancer than a control group. Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant and aid to the liver. |
Beta Glucans, long-chain polysaccharides that stimulate the immune system into action. Beta glucans trick the body into an immune response, triggering an increase in the production of macrophages, T-cells, natural killer cells and cytokines. Each capsule contains 200 mg 1,3/1,6 beta glucans.
Arabinogalactan stimulates natural killer cell and macrophage activity. It also helps increase the flora of Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus, two beneficial types of bacteria. Each capsule contains 100 mg arabinogalactan.
Colostrum is the first milk produced by mammals before the onset of lactation. Rich in protein and immune-protecting transfer factors, colostrum supports the immune system of the newborn, and it can also improve health later in life. It helps increase immunoglobulin protein levels in the intestinal tract to fight foreign microorganisms.
Reishi Mushroom and Maitake Mushroom are from the same family (polyporaceae), and their similar polysaccharide content is thought to boost immune activity, increase the activation of natural killer cells and activate macrophages.Cordyceps protects genes by promoting the repair of DNA.
Cordyceps is a potent antioxidant that promotes the repair of DNA. Studies show that it may help the body suppress tumor cells, slowing their proliferation. Cordyceps increases T-cell and B-cell activity. B-cells produce antibodies that circulate in blood and lymph. These two groups kill foreign invaders.
