B ee Pollen is a
food that is basic to all life. It is the male element of plants.
Since plants cannot move from one place to another for
fertilization, they depend on animals or the wind to carry pollen
from one plant to another.
Historical accounts reveal that scraps of bee pollen from the
hive were the main food source from the beginning of recorded
history about bees.
Bee Pollen is mentioned several times in the Bible; it was a
common health food of early Romans; it was eaten by athletes in
the original ancient Olympics in Greece, and now is rediscovered
as a powerful energy food for everyone.
Scientists show bee pollen as being a powerhouse of
nutrients. According to those who study bees and their products,
pollen is a highly concentrated source of essential elements and
seems to be the most complete food in nature. It contains all
water-soluble vitamins, ten amino acids, 27 minerals, trace
elements, and different enzymes, and more.
Bee Pollen is widely used in a number of ways; as an energy
booster, as an endurance food for athletes, as a longevity
producer, and as a cosmetic. Pollen is also used to combat
infection of the cervix, bladder and general malaise.
The Longevity University of Russia sent out letters to more
than 200 people living in the Soviet Union who claim to be more
than 100 years old. Three questions are asked: What was their
age; how had they earned a living most of their lives; and what
had been their principle food? The responses were remarkable, in
that, without exception, of the 150 responses returned, all
reported that their principle food was bee pollen and a large
number of them were beekeepers their robust health, even at the
age of 100.
A former Russian Olympic coach, now coaching a team in the
U.S. concluded a two year research program which provides a
scientific basis for what had before been conjecture - - that bee
pollen actually does improve crucial recovery power of athletes,
which is the most serious problem of athletes, recovering their
endurance and stamina. He knew that Eastern world- class athletes
were resorting to bee pollen in their pre-Olympic diets.
The results of his study show that athletes training on bee
pollen not only gain back their energy faster, but actually
improved their performances on second and third tries even after
strenuous exertion. He divided the bee pollen testers into four
groups - - a, b, c, d. Group D did not get any bee pollen at
all.
The results offer overwhelming evidence that without
exception members of the A, B, C groups, all on varying amounts
of bee pollen, increased their recovery power - - that is,
quickly returned to normal heart beat, breathing, and readiness
for the next event. The placebo D group showed no such
improvement. Even more striking is the fact that the bee pollen
groups invariably improved their performance on the second time
around, whereas the D group, after shooting their bolt on the
first trial, rapidly slipped downhill with poorer performances on
subsequent tries.
Bee Pollen, taken daily and specifically between exercises of
high intensity, substantially improves qualities involved in
achieving maximum anaerobic capacity. Bee Pollen, therefore, is a
boon to coach and athletes alike.
Bee Pollen should be used by everyone as nutritional
insurance because of its completeness of nutrients and certainly,
as an energy booster. Most people of this country complain of not
having enough energy. Bee Pollen can be the answer to correct
that tired feeling and thus give more incentive and desire to get
out and exercise regularly. For top-class athletes, bee pollen is
a must.
Allergies are caused by the pollens carried by the winds, and
not the heavier, sticky pollens used by the bee. When the bee
mixes pollen with his stomach contents to form carriable pellets,
all allergy causing substances are neutralized....Bee Pollen,
therefore, presents no problem for allergic people.
Bee Pollen also acts as an immunizing agent for allergies by
gradually building resistance with gradual intake.
One teaspoonful a day is the average recommended dosage. In
capsule form, two capsules, twice a day is recommended.
Bee Pollen is a food of extreme complexity whose composition
and possibilities are far from being known. It is the richest
food in nature, a powerful food supplement, a valuable medicinal
aid. Hippocrates, Pliny and Virgil all believed pollen had an
important role in warding off problems of old age and ensuring

History has come a full circle. Today, many of the
world's top athletes have rediscovered bee pollen.
Finland's Lasse Viren, the 1972 and 1976 Olympics gold medal
distance champion eats several pollen tablets a day during
training and competition. Although Moscow refuses to acknowledge
it officially, the USSR's ice hockey team and many of their
Olympic medal winners have been eating bee pollen for a long
time.
NOW IT'S
AMERICA'S TURN
With Steve Ruddick's support, more and more of the U.S.
Olympic teams are eating bee pollen. Take Herman Frazier, for
instance, he is the first Olympic sprinter to be used as a
starter for the U.S. Winter Olympics Bob Sled team. It is hoped
his legs will give the team a starting edge. Frazier eats bee
pollen every day.
With this kind of support, bee pollen is likely to become
better known among the general public, too. It's likely to be
popular among people who are over weight and on a diet because so
often these people feel tired from lack of proper nutrition.
Conversely, it is likely to be popular among people who get over
tired too often but don't want to eat a lot of high energy
foods that are fattening. And with these two groups, that's
just about 90 percent of the American Population over 15.
And just think! It all began 30 million years ago or more. Is
there anything really new under the sun?
